BACKGROUND PAINTING

Background painting is where the actual images I paint appear in the final movie or TV show. My first job out of Art Center was at Disney Feature Animation as a Background Trainee. For me, painting backgrounds only occurs on 2D shows. For 3D productions my environment paintings get passed onto a 3D department where they’re used as reference material to build 3D assets which make up the finished 3D environment.
