oil figure paintings

This first group of figure paintings were done in oil on Dura-Lar - a translucent mylar film. Behind the Dura-Lar is a sheet of Gatorboard painted with various colors of water-based house paint. I discovered this technique from Susan Lyon’s blog. I like painting on this surface because it’s relatively affordable compared to canvas, plus I can change the color of the ground behind the painting after I’m finished. Also, it’s relatively easy to wipe the paint off the surface for corrections as I go. These studies were painted from life: 5-25 minute poses.
